Additional charges filed in fatal DUI-related crash on Cortez Rd

Additional charges were recently filed in the November 2 DUI-related crash that killed a Bradenton mother of two. 

According to Bradenton Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators, Cesar Navarrete, 25, was driving westbound on Cortez Rd. at 115 MPH when he ran a red light at 43rd St. W. and slammed into a Chevrolet Equinox. There was no evidence indicating Navarrete attempted to brake or avoid the crash. The force of impact sawed the Equinox in half, injuring the driver, Sergio Larcher De Brito, 35, and killing the passenger, Sara Danielle Holmes, 37.

A DUI investigation revealed Navarrete's blood alcohol concentration was .289, more than three times the legal limit.

The Bradenton Police Department arrested Navarrete on an outstanding bench warrant for driving with a suspended license, as well as charges of DUI Manslaughter and Driving While License Cancelled, Suspended, Or Revoked And Causing Serious Bodily Injury Or Death.

Two new charges were added during a recent court appearance. Here are the charges Navarrete faces:

  • DUI - Manslaughter (Bond Revoked)

  • Driving While License Cancelled, Suspended Or Revoked And Causing Serious Bodily Injury Or Death ($500,000 bond)

  • Vehicular Homicide ($750,000 bond)

  • Driving Under the Influence - Property Damage And/Or Personal Injury ($500,000 bond)

Navarrete remains at the Manatee County jail. His arraignment is scheduled for December 27.
