December 13, 2024

The Bradenton Police Department has received funding for the Florida Department of Transportation High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) Program, which aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.

Officers will patrol specific corridors with a high occurrence of pedestrian- and bicycle-involved crashes. These include:

· 1st St between 10th Ave W - 13th Ave W

· 8th Ave W between 9th St W - 12th St W

· 14th St between 18th Ave W - 21st Ave W

· Manatee Ave W between 53rd St W - 57th St W

Special attention will be directed towards increasing awareness of the dangerous behaviors that contribute to serious and fatal injuries.

· Drivers: Obey speed limits, never drive impaired, and always watch for pedestrians and bicyclists.

· Bicyclists: Obey traffic laws, ride in the direction of traffic, and use lights when riding at night.

· Pedestrians: Cross in crosswalks or at intersections, obey pedestrian signals, and ensure you are visible to drivers when walking at night.

The HVE grant is funded by the University of North Florida’s Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) and the Florida Department of Transportation.
