Four Bradenton Police officers promoted to Sergeant

Chief of Police Melanie Bevan is proud to announce the promotion of four officers to Sergeant.
Sergeant Kristie Affolter joined the Bradenton Police Department as a patrol officer in 2017 after graduating with a degree in criminology from the University of South Florida. She has served her career in the Patrol Division and has been an acting sergeant since May 2023. She is also a Field Training Officer, Vehicle Operations instructor, Taser 10 instructor, and Explorer Advisor.
Sergeant Todd Freed joined the Bradenton Police Department as a patrol officer in 2006. After 14 years in patrol, Sergeant Freed transferred to the Criminal Investigations Section in 2020. He has served on the Manatee County Violent Crimes Task Force since 2023. He has been a member of the SWAT Team since 2011 and the Marine Unit since 2019. Sergeant Freed has an Associate of Arts degree in Political Science.
Sergeant Jonathan Medina joined the Bradenton Police Department patrol division in 2013. He was assigned to the Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) from 2021-2022 and has been a Field Training Officer since 2021. He is a member of the Marine Unit and Hostage Negotiator Team and a previous member of the State Emergency Response Team (SERT). Sergeant Medina also is a general, defensive tactics, driving, and taser instructor. He is pursuing a degree in criminal justice.
Sergeant Andres “Andy” Perez joined the department in 2010. While in the patrol division, he was assigned to several investigative units. Sergeant Perez transferred to detectives in 2017 and worked in the Special Investigations and Narcotics units before joining the Criminal Investigations Section (CIS) as a homicide detective and member of the Manatee County Homicide Investigations Unit. He most recently served as an acting sergeant in CIS and the Patrol Division. Sergeant Perez has been a SWAT Team member since 2018 and is the SWAT Team Leader. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
