Juveniles arrested for firing BB guns at school buses

Two juveniles, ages 11 and 17, will be charged in connection with a pair of shootings that damaged two Manatee County School District buses on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.  

The buses were hit with BB guns while traveling in the 800 block of 27th Street E., Bradenton. The first school bus was struck twice, at approximately 1:15 p.m. Two windows were damaged. The second bus was struck once, at approximately 4:40 p.m. In this case, minor damage resulted. There were no children on either bus but were occupied by the respective drivers and aides. There were no injuries reported.  

Bradenton Police Officers and Detectives determined the shots were fired from a residence on 27th Street E. Two juveniles were identified as suspects, and two rifle-style BB guns and a pistol-style BB gun were recovered. Parental or guardian consent was obtained to interview the juveniles.  

Both juveniles will be charged with second degree felonies in accordance with F.S.S. 790.19, Shooting into or Throwing Deadly Missiles into a Vessel. No further information will be released at this time about the juveniles.
