Suspect identified in fatal hit-and-run crash

The Bradenton Police Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on January 18, 2025, in the 1300 block of 15th St. W. 

At approximately 11:30 p.m., the driver of a black Infiniti sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed on northbound 15th St. W. The driver lost control of the car, hit a pole, then struck a 26-year-old man who was sitting or sleeping in the grass adjacent to the sidewalk. The driver left the vehicle and ran from the scene before officers arrived. The victim died at the scene. 

Through investigative means, detectives determined the vehicle's owner was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.  

Julio Torres, 28, of Bradenton, is charged with: 

  • Vehicular Homicide 

  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving death 

  • Driving while license suspended - second or subsequent charge
