Teen shot, killed on Palma Sola Causeway

Bradenton Police and Manatee Homicide Task Force detectives are investigating the shooting death of a teenager near the Palma Sola Causeway early this morning. 

Shortly after 1 a.m., a BPD officer responded to a report of gunshots in the 8600 block of Manatee Ave. W. and located 16-year-old Martavious Carter, deceased. Detectives believe Carter was picked up at a location within Manatee County earlier in the evening and driven to the secluded area of the Causeway where the crime occurred.  

The Causeway and Manatee Bridge were closed for several hours to ensure a thorough investigation. Roads reopened just after 5:30 a.m. 

Detectives believe this to be an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing.
