15 BPD officers in Milwaukee for Republican National Convention

Fifteen Bradenton Police Officers are providing extra security at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. BPD’s officers, and two officers with the Palmetto Police Department, arrived in Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon, hours before the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

The Milwaukee Police Department requested extra officers to assist with RNC security many months ago. Federal grants are made available to the cities that host the RNC and DNC to cover the cost of extra security measures. According to information previously released by the Milwaukee Police Department, more than 4,000 law enforcement officers from across the country are providing security for the RNC.

BPD is not providing frontline security. Their assignments, which include enforcing perimeter security, were predesignated by the Milwaukee Police Department and U.S. Secret Service.

The Bradenton Police Department has provided officers for RNC/DNC events before, and most recently assisted with the RNC held in Tampa in 2012. BPD officers also provide security during Presidential Inaugurations.
