Convenience store shooting investigation

March 17, 2023

Case #: 2023-002289

At approximately 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023, Bradenton Police officers responded to a shooting at a convenience store in the 900 block of 9th Ave. E.

It is believed the 63-year-old owner/clerk of the convenience store confronted two adults (a 39-year-old male and 36-year-old female) regarding shoplifting. A physical altercation ensued between the clerk and the male. The clerk attempted to call 911, but his phone, and a gun, were taken away. The clerk retreated behind the counter, and when the male followed him, the clerk fired a shot using a second gun that was located there. The male was shot once in the shoulder. The male and female left the scene, pulled over a short distance away, and the female flagged down officers who stopped to render assistance.

The male is hospitalized in stable condition.

There are no charges filed at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
