School Speed Zone Camera Safety Program update

January 9, 2025

The City of Bradenton's School Speed Zone Camera Safety Program will issue violations at the following schools beginning January 13, 2025:

  • Ballard Elementary

  • G.D. Rogers Elementary

  • H.S. Moody Elementary

  • Manatee Elementary

  • Robert H. Prine Elementary

  • Sea Breeze Elementary

  • Sugg Middle School

  • Manatee High School

Speed-detection cameras located within school zones operate during school hours, activating 30 minutes before school starts and deactivating 30 minutes after school ends. They do not monitor traffic outside these hours, on weekends, or during holidays.

When active, the cameras capture images of vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 miles per hour or more. After being reviewed by the Bradenton Police Department, the registered owner of the speeding vehicle receives a $100 violation. Failure to pay the violation or request a hearing within 30 days will result in a Uniform Traffic Citation (ticket).

The School Speed Zone Camera Safety Program implementation began with two schools, Bradenton Christian School and Jessie P. Miller Elementary. Cameras at these locations began issuing violations on November 21, 2024. Approximately 200 violations have been issued as of January 6, 2025.

The program required a 30-day warning period for each school. Approximately 400 warnings were issued between October 21, 2024, and January 6.
